Trending: Underwear As Outerwear

I've been meaning to do a trend post for some time now, but I've been debating between the whole sneakers thing and underwear as outerwear. Sneakers seemed a little tired, not that I don't love them - I've totally 110% jumped on that train - but underwear seemed a little fresher, as it's inspired both the 2014 runways (ie. Jason Wu and Stella McCartney) and high-street fashion brands (ie. Topshop and Zara). Now it's not a bare it all fun fair, but rather a classy layering of lingerie inspired tops (lace, silk, spaghetti straps), slip dresses, knicker shorts and other barely there pieces.

This trend is really easy to incorporate into your outfit, because it's been translated into dresses, tops, and even shoes. Seeing as it's so understated, this is not the kind of trend that makes you look a someone and think, ah, she's wearing the trend, but rather, gee, she has really great style - unless you're at Coachella and wearing this head-to-toe, then you're most definitely wearing the trend. Below I've compiled a few pieces inspired by this trend, from lace camis, crochet and slip dresses, to mesh, bralets and knicker shorts.

2) Cami Tops

I really love this trend! Slip dresses in particular have been on my lust list for a while now, but I haven't really been able to find one I'm obsessed with that doesn't cost a ridiculous amount of money. I'd really like one similar to this one worn by Lena of Frockled (unfortunately, she got it from a market). When I do find it, you'll be the first to know!
Yay or nay for this trend?

Trend Alert: Denim on Denim

The fashion industry has time-traveled to the 80s & 90s, and brought back the double denim trend to the present day. I always find fashion time travel a little amusing, especially seeing that over the last decade, the majority of us have sworn off Denim on Denim as a complete and utter no-no...

For today's post, I've collaborated with the Megan, Christine and Mzcocoh who are all really great fashion bloggers. They've each styled a denim on denim look in their own way and added a little creative blogger flair, so as to show you how easy it is to wear double denim without looking like you've literally stepped out of the 80s.

Accessorizing is key when wearing denim on denim. As you can see in the first picture, Megan's clutch is the only factor of the outfit apart from the denim. It's one simple piece, but the pop of colour totally ties the look together. Neutral, strappy sandals are a great addition too!

To tone down the trend, wearing a blazer like Christine has done in the second picture will draw away attention from the denim. You barely notice that she's wearing double denim, and yet the little peaks of blue keep you on trend. The scarf if the main accessory which kicks the outfit up a notch!

It's often said that when wearing double denim, you should wear a different wash from the top to the bottom, and yet Mzcocoh gives a flawless example of how to break that rule. The look is casual but sophisticated, and the bright red pumps give a cute twist to the whole outfit.

Here's my take on the look:

I think it's refreshing to see new faces on the blog, so here's a HUGE thanks to the three lovely ladies and their sense of style for helping me out! Make sure to check out all of their blogs, because, evidently, they all know their stuff! ;)

Trend Alert: Military Madness

A trend I'm loving right now is the military vibe the fashion world has taken on. Street fashionistas seem to have taken the trend as literal as the go with camo print on everything from t-shirts to sunglasses, while designers on the runway have gone in the completely opposite direction and steered far away from the camo print, opting for military colours, sharp shoulders and big buttons to stay on trend.

I'd prefer to wear one statement camo piece with solid colours, but there are some of us brave enough to wear the look from head to toe. (Kudos to you!)

Happy camouflaging! (That was cheesy, I'm sorry...)

Trend Alert: Mirrored Shades

A trend that's all over the world of street style right now is mirrored sunglasses! Coming in a number of bright hues, it's a very chic and almost sporty way to add a little je ne sais quoi to your outfit. At first I found it to be a little tacky, but who would've thought that it could look so good?

Trend Alert: The Zoo's In Town

I'm totally loving this cat sweater! It's super cute for winter, and works great to add a quirky touch to an otherwise not so quirky outfit.

With that, is it just me, or have animal sweaters become increasingly popular in the world of street style? Unlike most trends, where I'm usually the last to jump onto the train, I've loved this trend from the moment I first saw it! It just takes some clever styling to wear it without looking childish or kitsch...

Über chic, yes?
